Famine, Bamboo Death and Bamboo Flowering. Any relation ?

Just an interesting thing I read and that is called Bamboo Death. It is related to famine. Is not this interesting? A plant can be linked to famine and that is not something which humans eat. If a plant like wheat or Rice is linked to famine then there is nothing to think of.

It is a belief that Bamboo flowering, which can occur in 7 to 120 years attributes to increase in rat, famine and unrest. Scientifically, it is proved wrong by some and proved correct by others. According to the theory, Bamboo flowering results in Bamboo seeds which rats eat and grow. After that time changes and seeds become unavailable to rats and those rats migrate to farm. This creates unavailability of food grains.

Economy boom for poor!

It is a kind of economic boom for poor. Few months back there was a global cause of worry over price rise in food. Food price also caused riots to break out in over dozen countries. But now price has fallen to half of the high seen in recent past. Price of major commodity has decreased. Crude price, which was an all time high till July ($ 147) and was working a crude enemy, is now $69 per barrel.

Price of key commodities like grains, crude oil, and metals are on free fall. According to latest data release by Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) of United Nations.

Main reasons behind the decline are record harvests in most crops and economic slowdown. Due to economic slowdown, crude price has hit. World cereal output has touched a new high and it 5 percent more than last year.

Wheat production has increase by 11 percent and rice production has increased by 2 per cent over last year’s record.

Wheat : $ 482 (march) and currently $ 272
Rice : $772 (May) and currently $ 412
Soyabean: $586 (July) and currently it is 371

Old Proved Gold – Farming Techniques From Vedas

Old methods from Vedas for farming techniques proved gold for a Unnao farmer. Many adopted this homa-farming idea from Lacknow-based horticulture institute four years ago but this one farmer stick to it and getting result year after years. This method proved to be costly. First year it seems useless due to high input cost and low return. But according to Ramesh Chandra Tiwari, he is getting fruit in yearly basis as their input cost is lowering and yield is going up.

Ramesh Chandra Tiwari is thankful to central Horticultural sub-tropical Research institute (CHSRI). Tiwari has been appointed as in expert by the CHSRI to teach this method to others. This homa-farming was invented in India and is described in great details in ‘Rig Vedas’.

Home is derived from ancient Hindu practice of performing ‘yajna’ or ‘havan’ by lighting a ritual fire and putting various things in it. In Homa-farming, organic fertilizer is used instead of chemical fertilizer. Vedic Mantras is also chanted in the rituals.

According to principal adviser in National Horticulture Mission, Homa- Farming is a scientific method which lays emphasis on fumigation of the atmosphere, an important factor to keep your crop healthy and save it from ailments.

The usual pest and insects found in the region are no worry in this farm, which destroy major portion of the crop in this belt.
