So, Modi govt's claim that they have done wonder to economy is fake. Nothing good Jaitely could achieve. Only, GST they could implement that also not in a good way.

Export has decreased when compared to 2014.

Oil Price nosedived. Now what?

What effect can this Oil price slide can have on Indian economy? This question is in talk these days and part of discussion.

This article explain in good detail and yet it is short seeing what they have covered.

If we check history then lower oil price boosted Global Economy. For India it is definitely good as this will reduce oil import bill, thus will reduce Current Account Deficit and then fiscal deficit. Only thing is that currently few countries are in good position due to lower oil price as they used to export oil to earn money. If economic turbulence comes in few countries then it can affect India as well.

Goods and Service Tax (GST) in India

Goods and service tax (GST) is the buzzwords in recent times. What is it and why we need to know about this?
GST is unification of various service taxes. It will help make India as a common market. Many kinds of sectors will benefits from it and overall it is expected that GDP of the country will benefits by 1% approx. 1% GDP growth is the huge difference. Sectors to benefits most from GST are Consumer Durable, Logistics, FMCG and others.

This blog post is just a collection of information for you to read.

What is GST? It is an indirect tax that will lead to the abolition of all other taxes such as octroi, central sales tax, state-level sales tax, excise duty, service tax, and value-added tax (VAT). Both the state and the central governments will impose GST on almost all goods and services produced in India or imported into the country.

GST decoded

Wikipedia

A blog post about how GST can help manufacturers and logistics

A site developed for GST by someone. But many info are not updated

Few things like Alcohol, Petrol etc will come under GST or not is changed in recent time. Recently Cabinet has approved GST.

For investors:
UBS expects following sectors and companies to benefit from implementation of GST Bill.

1) Ceramic Tiles - Kajaria;

2) Consumer Durables - Bajaj Electricals, Havells, TTK Prestige;

3) FMCG/ packaged foods - Britannia, Dabur;

4) Apparel - Page, Raymond;

5) Batteries - Exide.

Logistics solutions companies may also benefit.

Who will benefits from GST?

According to the brokerage, organized players such as Exide Industries , Amara Raja Batteries, Jubilant FoodWorks, Asian Paints, Pidilite Industries , Britannia Industries, ITC and Marico are expected to benefit from the bill.

Century Plyboards India Ltd, a leading player in the fast growing plywood and laminate segment, with an overall share of 25% of the organised plywood market. For procuring wood, the plywood industry doesn’t pay any excise duty or VAT. Therefore, there is no CENVAT credit available to the plywood manufacturers. As a result, the scope for savings is huge if the excise duty is evaded (that is why the plywood segment has more unorganised players, who form 70% of the segment). However, once the GST comes into force, the tax advantage currently enjoyed by the unorganised players would diminish sharply and the market share of the organised players would surge.

How GST Will Impact India's Leading Companies

Companies won't Benefit from GST:

  • Page Industries: GST will increase the tax burden, which the company says will be passed on to the consumers.
  • Bharti Airtel, Idea Cellular: Increase in service tax under GST will be passed on to the consumers.

Digital Timer at Traffic Signal

I see digital timer at traffic signal is very important in saving fuel. The traffic signal where digital timer is present, help people to know how long they need to wait and according to that people switch off his vehicle. Those without self start also switch off his vehicle at traffic signal where digital timer is provided. They can try starting their vehicle 5-10 seconds before the time ends. Those halted first at traffic signal can think of how long they need to wait at traffic signal, if they are passing by that way regularly. They can guess how long is the signal timing at particular signal but those who came latter cannot determine how long they need to wait, therefore they do not switch-off their motorcycle, car, etc. So, I request to the management to make digital timer available at every traffic signal to help us and government to save valuable fuel. It is directly related to saving currency and reducing money spent in importing fuel.

Pakistan in Peril

It is visible a long ago that I am not giving time to this blog. I want to write here as well but I could not give it enough time after working and doing blah blah stuff on my technical blog. Still sometime I got time to write and some issue forces me to write. This is one such issue.

Over time, I have no sympathy to corrupt peoples and those kinds of people who spread hatred and venom. These people will do everything and when you even complain and retaliate then they say that see they are doing the same. Pakistan definitely comes in the same bracket. Over the year, it is taken help from China just for fighting the false war with India. It takes lots of money from International community in name of elevating poverty but what it does is you all know - spreading terrorism all over the world .  Recent flood is said to be covering 20-25 % of Pakistan population. Think it is quarter of whole country and not just any state in a country.

World over, people are thinking that accepting by Pakistan that India is not the biggest threat to India and it is extremism that has spread all over Pakistan is the biggest threat to Pakistan is a good outcome. Many think that it is just a gimmick by Pakistan to overcome the current tide and earn larger overseas contribution. Whatever be the reason and outcome, I think India must not change it hard instance against Pakistan and try to strengthen itself.
Few paragraphs from the TOI story related to recent situation:

Mutual suspicion in the two countries is so deep that the website that is promoting the theory that India is responsible for the floods went a step further to allege that New Delhi would ratchet up tensions during the Commonwealth Games to punish Pakistan — as if Mother Nature hadn't done enough damage to the unfortunate country.

Amid this mistrust in the time of cholera, what was striking was the international community's reluctance to open its purse strings.

A casual look at Pakistan's ruling elite and their lifestyle is enough for donors — countries and individuals — to hold back their contributions.

US policy on Pakistan has long been guided by fear. Very early into his term, President Obama openly suggested that Washington had to pay off Pakistan to keep terrorists away from US shores.

Should New Delhi pursue a similar policy? Consider this. If India were to offer Pakistan $100 million in aid (more than what any other country has and an offer that would be harder to refuse than $5 million), it would still amount to less than five rupees per head. But why should India offer such a large sum when millions in India are starving? Well one way of looking at it is continued attrition through terrorism may be costing India more and an outright war to stop this could run into billions — so why not try a $100 million olive branch at a time when humanitarian concern also call for it? The catch though, as the US has found on this slippery slope, is that the beast may never be sated.

Bihar Economic Development is Real!

Today's S.A. Aiyar article about Bihar economic development shed light about the current situation on economic status and possible economic development Bihar can see in future. He have mentioned some data that tells that Bihar economic development is true and is well a miracle economy. GDP growth of 8 percent or more is thought to be miracle economy.

Recent statement by few leaders (bad leaders) that Bihar economic development is not a true story but a hogwash is not true and no one has manipulated the growth story of Bihar.
Here you can see the data present in support of the Bihar development:

He not only given CSO data but also thought of the leaders nature and natural process of winning election. For example, he tell that no politician can claim to win election on the basis of economic growth. People's personal experience matter much.

Few more points from the same article:
In Lalu’s time, swaggering goons showed off their guns in public. Today no gunman is visible. The Nitish administration has convicted 38,000 people, including dozens of politicians, some from the ruling party itself — for violating the Arms Act.

The economic miracle has been led by construction, which has averaged a colossal growth rate of 47% per year for the last five years. Government development spending has zoomed from Rs 2,000 crore to Rs 16,000 crore per year.

Most impressive has been the rise in road construction, from 384 kilometres in 2004-05 to 2,417 kilometers in 2008-09. Security plus road and telecom expansion have incubated a boom in small business and domestic construction.

However, large-scale industries has not shown growth. Organized sector output actually fell in the Lalu era from Rs 1,150 crore in 1999-00 to Rs 790 crore in 2004-05 at constant prices, and has stagnated under Nitish. Big industry owner are waiting for election in Bihar. What will be the outcome of
next election will decide the growth of large-scale industries. Many large industries have proposed big investments.

Professionals are doctors and blackmailing government and doing disservice to the society. Doctors are going to strike very easily and too often.

They are not considering the social implication. Doctors do private practice and earn good amount of money.

SBICAPSEC is a Shit for Online Trading

Few months back, I have taken demat and trading account from SBI, India's number one Bank for banking. Its trading account software has given a very bad experience to me. I have taken online trading account so that I can make some money from the opportunity. India started coming out of recession. And I was sure of making some money easily by investing in any good company.

First, SBI has not enabled my banking account for online transaction. I say, when I have taken online Trading account and I already have banking account with SBI, then why they have not enabled online transaction from my banking account. Even they have not provided me any option to use on form, as far as I remember. Is it not ridiculous?

Second, I have enabled online transaction facility on my banking account after coming to know that I need do it separately. After that I come to know that I cannot transfer any amount from my online banking account to other account. They have just enable it to transfer from other account to my SBI banking account. This is another bad surprise. Whats a joke! I have Demat account with the bank and I have requested to allow me do online banking then also I can transfer one way - only from other account to my banking account.

After that, I saw an option for enabling online transaction both ways (not sure) or how to proceed with it. SBI online banking has two passwords system on their online banking. Now, I have visited that site (onlineSBI) to check inside it. I already put password when I have visited there for first time. It was a must to do. Now I forgot that password. For resetting the profile password, I provided the details but they are not accepting the new password. Whatever I am giving, it is telling that it is not in the right format and giving error that password must be minimum 8 chars etc. I have given various combination but no one worked.

I should have thought that for customer care SBI is a shit. I have taken Online Trading facility with SBI thinking it is our national bank. This kind of service create requirements for Private entity sans their pesky marketing calls.

Flourishing Bhojpuri Industry May Go Out Of Mumbai

As a side affect of Raj's tirade against North Indian, Bhojpuri film industry can out of Mumbai. Bhojpuri Film industry is over Rs 200-crore. It provides jobs to lots of workers from Maharashtra. With an average output of 75 movies per annum and an over 250 million target audience, the Bhojpuri film industry employs hundreds of unskilled and semi-skilled people from the state in various stages of production and distribution.

The industry, which has around 50 registered production houses in Mumbai, has initiated talks with some state governments like Uttar Pradesh and Bihar for its set up.

Manoj Tiwari said that despite employing a large number of Maharashtrians, the Bhojpuri film industry was still being targeted for "our connection with north India, even though Bhojpuri films have their audiences across the country."

Bhojpuri film is in demand noy only in India but also have a vast overseas market as the Bhojpuri diaspora is spread over countries like Mauritius, Nepal, Dubai, Ghana, West Indies, Fiji, Indonesia, Surinam and the Netherlands.

But why only Bjojpuri Film is going outside of Maharashtra, Hindi film industry should also go from there, as they are targeting Hindi speaking people.

Economic Crisis: Behind Subprime Crisis

You all may have listen to subprime crisis in America, and you may also aware of the affect subprime crisis has caused. But subprime crisis has come. Paul Curgman (Novel prize winner) has discussed about it.

According to him, global origin of our current economic crisis was laid out by Ben Bernanke in 2005 itself. Currently he is a chairman of the Federal Reserve. He raised question, why USA, world largest economy, is borrowing heavily from international market instead of lending. They have said that in 1997, third-world economics hit by financial crisis started accumulating huge precautionary hoards of overseas assets. So those third-world countries became from destination of capital to source of capital. And due to depth and sophistication of Americas financial market all money started to come here (USA).

United States of America was not suited to make use of the world's surplus funds. Directly or indirectly, capital flowing into America from global investors ended up financing a housing-and-credit bubble that has now burst, with painful consequences. One advantage of America's situation is that foreign debts are in Americas own currency. It means suppose India has taken one billion dollar one years back, so have to pay Rs 1 billion multiplied by 40 at that time. But now India has to pay Rs 1 billion multiplied by 48, because Rupee value has depreciated.

Now, according to Paul Curgman, real sin of Federal Reserve and Bush administration was the failure to exercise adult supervision?

What is subprime crisis? How it caused financial mayhem?

Paul Krugman won the Nobel Prize of Economics

Paul Krugman won the Nobel Prize of Economics. The prize was awarded for work done almost three decades ago in developing what is known as “new trade theory” and “new economic geography”.

Among professional economists, Mr Krugman is admired for his work on currency crises as well as the work on trade that won the prize. Avinash Dixit, a Princeton colleague, once described Krugman’s methods: “He spots an important economic issue months or years before anyone else. Then he constructs a model of it, which offers new and unexpected insight. Soon the issue reaches general attention, and Krugman’s model is waiting for other economists to catch up.”

He is the 62nd winner of the economics prize since its inception in 1969, and a rare solo winner: the prize has been shared in seven of the past 10 years. Paul Krugman was the lone of winner of the 10 million kronor (US$1.4 million)

Mr Krugman, a professor at Princeton University and a prominent columnist for the New York Times, has long been seen as a future Nobel laureate. More

Economic crisis and your saved money in Bank – How much secure is that!

In this time of economic crisis, when a news come about any bank that it is going to be bankrupt then all depositor started running withdrawing their money from bank. It is quite natural. People save their hard earned money in bank for bad times.
Indian Bank is not in that bad shape currently because as ours is growing and young economy and our bank’s regulator is not that risk taking. So, it provides more security than foreign counterparts.
It is difficult to be calm in this crisis for hard earned money, but you can be aware of the RBI policy about Bank.

So are the bank's lending and investments safe?
As the FM points out, the banks are well capitalized. What does this mean? It simply means, that the RBI lays down norms for banks to follow and these regulations will ensure that depositor's money is safe. Here are some of the regulations:

-Banks cannot lend more than a certain amount to unsecured loans, that is, loans that are not backed by a mortgage or lien. Common examples of these are personal loans, credit cards, etc. Even loans against shares are risky because the mortgage in this case would be the shares which are volatile.

-The RBI's monetary policy defines the limit to which banks can invest in the stock market. It means that banks can't invest more than that amount in equity shares, convertible debentures, mutual funds etc.

-Banks have a limit on the use of foreign funds (either foreign direct investment or foreign borrowing). This ensures that during times of crisis, even if foreign players pull out their money, the bank is not substantially affected.

-Banks have strict audit and disclosure requirements. This keeps a check on the bank's lending and borrowing.

-Banks must maintain a minimum capital as a buffer against any unforeseen risk. Banks also need to keep liquid funds and these are defined by the cash reserve ratio (CRR) and the statutory liquidity ratio (SLR).

In an interview with CNN IBN, CNBC TV 18's banking editor Latha Venkatesh, explained, "For every Rs 100 a bank collects as deposit, Rs 25 will have to be kept with the government as bonds. Governments cannot default, so Rs 25 is anyway safe. Another 8.5 per cent cash should be kept with the RBI, so that is safe again. Lehman Brothers lent 40 times its capital as loans and Goldman Sachs lent 27 times it capital but India is nowhere near that kind of cowboy lending"

In addition to these regulations, financial planner Arvind Rao explains, "For further security, the government introduced 'deposit insurance', which secures your bank deposit up to Rs 1 lakh."

All commercial banks including the branches of foreign banks functioning in India, local area banks and regional rural banks are covered under the deposit insurance scheme.

Foreign banks?
Shanbhag explains that foreign banks that have subsidiaries in India are safe. However, those that are headquartered abroad and only have branches here will be different. "If their operations fail there, then most certainly their operations here will become questionable," he says.

In such case, the bank's future would depend on the respective governments. For instance, Venkatesh explains that the British government has gone all out to reassure its banks in a big way. "I assume that this assurance applies to branches in India," she said.

After reading this you may not have assured of your money- whether it is safe or not, but you may have got little idea of RBI regulation for banks. J

Business in Nuclear Energy Deal (123 Agreement)

India’s nuclear energy sector has $50 billion potential over the next 1-15 years. Industry sectors have begun to lobby with the government just after the 123 Agreement# pact to permit private sector entry in the industry. Indo-USA nuclear deal passed the USA Congress floor test on Oct 2, 2008.

Indian Corporate in power sector and heavy engineering started negotiating with foreign companies for nuclear power generation. This 123 nuclear deal will help lots of Indian companies to get business as main player and/or player for ancillary part production. Big multinational companies will get business in providing reactors and nuclear supply. This development will benefit infrastructure and power sector companies such as NTPC, Jindal, Larsen & Toubro, Tata Power and Reliance Power.

High technology sectors such as semi conductors, advanced manufacturing, precision engineering, defense equipment, advanced and specialty chemicals, electronics, sensors, environmental technology, space, automation and robotics, and Parma will be benefited by this nuclear deal. While some sectors will be helped by removal of restrictions on import of dual technology items and technology, others will get an opportunity to tap the potential created by nuclear trade.

IT can help in terms of software services, data management and control & automation. Also, the R&D skills from the Parma sector may play a crucial role. The R&D staff in Parma is well equipped to handle the sensitive technologies which India will get access to. They may also prove crucial in handling the chemical transformations and temperature control in the nuclear plants.”

However, actual contracts could take more than three to four years as varied issues, such as financial assistance and legal, regulatory and safety issues, are spelt out clearly and local capability is developed

State-owned Nuclear Power Corp of India (NPCIL), the monopoly nuclear power generator, has identified four reactor manufacturers — Westinghouse Electric Company (AP1000 series of reactors), GE-Hitachi (ABWR reactor series), Areva (1,000 mw European pressurized reactors, France) and Russia’s atomic energy agency Rosatom (VVER 1,000 reactors) — as among the frontrunners for new projects planned across the country. This is based on “suitability” of technical parameters for placement of orders that will form the first phase of the Center’s plan to build 40,000 mw of nuclear capacity by 2020.

Oil Subsidies in Developing Nations

Oil subsidies paid by developing countries reached at peak and unmaintainable by most of the developing countries. High subsidies are paid by developing nations for oil and gas. This also means tax payers pay lots of their money for subsidizing oil and gas in India, Sri Lanka, China, Bangladesh, Indonesia, Taiwan and Malaysia.

World oil price reached at record high at $135 a barrel.

Indian oil Public Sector Undertakings may jointly suffer $46 billion this year. Sri Lanka will loosing around $591 million. Malaysia may spend $15.56 billion this year.

Most of these countries are thinking of increasing oil prices. States are running sort of resources for maintaining such a high subsidy now die to continuing oil price rise.

India is going to increase price of Petrol and diesel. I hope business man do not take advantage of the situation and will add only the cost they pay due to higher price of diesel. I saw business man add 1 Rs to each kilo of item you purchase when government increase 1 Rs in diesel, which is not fair. News paper or government should publish what could be the effect of the price rise on important eatables due to the government raised price of petrol and diesel.

The Real Hero – An Indian Housewife

This one Sapna Sharma’s editorial article is very interesting. Here Sapna Sharma is telling about how sincerely Indian Housewife manages house economy without the options our Finance Minister have. Finance Minister has options of thinking about an year or mostly five years, they have RBI for printing currency and they can squeeze one section to please another. Indian housewife has to take car of everyone without compromising any family member – even family dog. She is telling, how housewife ( our mother) saves money even after doing so much for their family. This household saving, makes 24% of all saving in India is one of the highest in the world.

In a post-budget interview, the Union finance minister likened India’s growth story to an Indian epic in which all sections of society — scheduled castes, scheduled tribes, minorities, women and children — have a role to play. What he did not mention was the other side of the story, i.e. how each of these sections was contributing to economic growth. Let’s talk of just one section — the housewives — whose contribution, though immense, never gets recognised. While the FM has to worry about the budget only once a year, a housewife has to do it month after month. This is not an easy task because unlike the FM she cannot impose new taxes nor raise the rates of old ones to boost her family income. Nor does she have recourse to an RBI, which can lend endlessly on the strength of freshly printed currency. The FM can afford to squeeze one section to please another. Want to give relief to salaried class by raising the threshold of taxable income? No problem, increase the short-term capital gains tax from 10 to 15 per cent. But can you do that at home? No, because every member is important — even the family dog. But wait. There is one member whose needs can be postponed or even ignored — that of the lady herself.
So, to keep the budget on the rail, the poor thing keeps on denying herself the little pleasures of life. “Trust my intelligence”, said the FM when someone asked him how he would find the means for writing off farmers’ loans. We do. But isn’t that another way of saying that one would cross the bridge when one came to it? And who knows who the FM will be when the bridge must be crossed? A homemaker on the other hand is for life and she must cross all bridges to keep her family afloat. And yet, she not only balances her family budget but, amazingly, also saves something for rainy days! This something, called household savings by the experts, stands at a staggering 24 per cent of all savings in India, and is one of the highest in the world. Without it, it’s impossible to achieve an 8 per cent plus growth rate in the economy. For this alone, the Indian housewife — the unknown soldier of India’s war against poverty — deserves a salute.

With the souring price of every item,Indian Housewife only knows how they are managing their house budget.
