India has entered into elite club of Marine Gas Turbine designers by developing ship engine. Gas Turbine Research Establishment of DRDO (Defense Research Development Organization) develops the Kaveri engine. It is in the testing environment in the naval dockyard of Vishakapatnam. Its performance is good there.
Kaveri engine is named Gaveri Marine Gas Turbine (KMGT). Its testing is going on the Marine Gas Turnbine test bed in Vishakapatnam. This test bed is Indian Navy facility capable of testing the gas turbines upto 25 MW of shaft power.
Currently Marine Gas Turbine designers in world are USA, Russia, the UK and Ukraine.
This engine is the outcome of Kaveri Aero engine. Work on this aero engine is in final stages. This aero engine is to be used in the Light Combat Aircraft (LCA).

BrahMos the supersonic cruise missile is a hit
Several countries have shown interest in the BrahMos, the supersonic cruise missile jointly developed by India and Russia that was successfully tested from a range at Chandipur on Sunday.
BrahMos is the first and only supersonic cruise missile using liquid ramjet technology. The BrahMos has been developed as a joint venture between the Defence Research and Development Organization (DRDO) of India and the Federal State Unitary Enterprise NPO Mashinostroyenia (NPOM) of Russia under BrahMos Aerospace.
The missile is named after two rivers, the Brahmaputra and the Moskva.
"Many countries have evinced interest in the BrahMos which has no equivalent in the world," A Sivathanu Pillai, CEO of Brahmos Aerospace Private Ltd said. There is no missile in the world with such capacities, precision, speed and power," he said, adding the missile's 14th test on Sunday was a "100 per cent success".
The Indian and Russian governments will decide who the missile could be sold to, he said.
The BrahMos, which has a range of 290 km, will be inducted into the Indian Army this year, Pillai said. The missile has already been inducted into the Indian Navy.
"We are going to deliver the missile to the army this year as orders have been placed with us."
The testing of the missile to fit it into submarines would be conducted in the future. "We are actually waiting for the platform," Pillai said.

Defense: India is coming on right track
It is good India has started giving importance to weapons development.
Of late India is coming on right track in defense issues. India has started giving importance to research and development for developing their weapons. This time, it is going with Russia and it is possible only due to Russia’s need for support. But with the success of Bramos, I think India got the taste of success and got the importance of the time.
India and Russia agreed to develop 5G Fighter.
India should only maintain minimum deterrent purchasing security related things. Because Pakistan is not going to declare full bar and China is not Pakistan. China knows that doing war will cause great harm, and India is not a small country and India has good power also.
Developing our own weapons can only make us capable of taking on china and big country. Then we can create pressure on China.
Indian Express has done good job highlighting the failure of DRDO.
